BIM - Building Information Modeling
 The industry is
working feverishly toward a new design model with many different names -
PEN (Parametric-ENabled), BIM (Building Information Modeling), Virtual
Building, Building Lifecycle Management, Building Simulation, even 3D
(versus 2D). What ever you want to call it, the benefits are real and
it’s about time. The only problem is that they stop too soon in the
process. 1ST Pricing takes it the rest of the way.
That’s right –
the rest of the way – pricing and fulfillment.
To achieve BIM
capabilities, CAD companies must integrate parametric symbols. Parametric
symbols (or smart symbols), essentially, means that physical parameters or
attributes are attached to each drawing element making it an object.
Rather than “pictures” each element in a drawing is attached to a
database that houses the details of that element. When an architect or
designer inserts a window into a parametrically enabled drawing, he would
then make a unique identification along with height, width, color, grids,
glass type, etc. The detailed information would then be stored in a
database that can be shared with downstream services – most likely
through web services. Think about sharing construction documents as easily
as sending email or accessing a website.
Whatever the acronym, whatever the process, 1ST
Pricing offers the most complete, multi-platform solution in the industry.
These industry changes reflect the promise of CAD and will transform the
building industry.
